It was a solid team effort with a balanced three line attack. All lines had a goal and the defense scored one as well, in the Icehole's 5 to 1 victory. Mark had a solid night between the pipes, with only one questionable goal squeaking/dribbling past him, which many feel didn't actually cross the goal line.
This was one of those games that could have, should have had a better result. But for a lack of defence and not being able to finish a play it was another loss for the Iceholes.
With a full roster the Icehole's played there best game of the year. From the drop of the first puck in the first, to the final whistle at the end of the third, the Iceholes out played the dirty Pigs in all aspects of the game. With the Pigs down a couple of goals in the third period they started to get chippy but Scott did his best to put an end to that crap.
From start to finish the Icehole's played a good game on both ends of the ice. They held the Young Guns in check most of the night and Mark had a strong night between the pipes. On the offensive side, the Iceholes finished their plays and put three past the Young Guns goalie for a well deserved 3 to 1 victory.
The Icehole's were hoping to even up the season series between the Iron Heads and the Icehole's. However with a 3 -1 victory, the Iron Heads secured a 3 to 1 series win. It was a closely contested game between the two teams, but in the end the Iron Heads were able to finish their scoring chances, while the Icehole's who had their chances, but just couldn't convert their chances into goals.
This was a game that should have ended up in the win column, but there were too many missed scoring opportunities, and a couple of costly defensive blunders. Late in the third period with a one goal lead the Iceholes had a collective brain fart that allowed Durham Radio to get two quick goals in a 30 second span.
This was a win that got away from the Icehole's. It was tied 3 - 3 after one and the same after 2 periods. The third started off well, but the Iron Heads scored two unanswered goals. The Icehole's just didn't bring their "A" game on the defensive end of the game this week, however on the positive side the offence was clicking for the most part. One more game against the Iron Heads, which takes place in two weeks needs to be circled as a must win for the Icehole's, as it will tie up the season searies between these two teams.
This was one of those games that when you look back on, was one that you know you should have won. The Icehole's just didn't play well enough to win against a much more physical team in the Pigs, and yes they do play like pigs, they are a very dirty team. The Icehole's showed good composure in coming back from a 2 goal and a 1 goal deficit, only to come up a goal short at the final whistle. In the final few seconds of the game with the goalie pulled, but with a penalty (too many men) the Icehole's had three good scoring chances, but unfortunately were denied the tying goal. Make the final 4 o 3 for the Pigs.
In what was easily the Icehole's most complete game of the year, they dominated the Iron Heads form the opening face-off right to the final buzzer. Ron played net and did an outstanding job and earned MVP honors for his stellar performance. The defence played solid, and on forward all three lines were involed in the scoring, with Bob and Mike T. leading the way with three points each.
It was a solid 30 minutes of hockey played by the Iceholes last night. They dominated the game from the first puck drop right to the final buzzer. Keyon got on the scoreboard early but the Icehole's tied the game shortly after. At the end of the first period the game was tied 1 - 1 but only a minute into the second the Icehole's scored their second goal, and late into the third they got some insurance by scoring again. Make the final Icehole's 3 and Keyon Drywall 1. The only negative thing that happened was to Al who late in third period was back checking got tied up with a Keyon winger, lost an edge and crashed hard into the boards. Al was slow to get up and needed help back to the bench, Back in the dressing room following the game the ankle did not look good, so Al was sent off to the hospital to get fixed up, Not sure what the official injury is but it sure looked broken, check back for an update.
The Icehole's got their first victory of the season, and there only 3 games into the season! The championship hangover has hopefully faded into past. In easily their best outing of the year they played a solid offensive and defensive game against Durham Radio. This game was scoreless for two and a half periods. In the end thanks to Ron's persistence around the net was the difference in this one to nothing victory.
