The Icehole's played a solid game rolling through all lines with ease. The Defense came up strong as did Mark, who only allowed one to sneak past. This game ensured that the Icehole's finish no lower than fourth, and gives them a shot at third place. With a victory in the final game of the season against the Iron Heads, and a mighty Pigs loss, The Icehole's would finish in third.
The Icehole's had their chances, as they controlled the play most of the night. The difference in this game was that the Iron Heads took advantage of all of their chances and the Icehole's did not. The Icehole's were short handed again last night, hopefully they will get a full squad out shortly for a game. Fresh legs in the third are a valuable asset.
Considering this was Superbowl weekend and a few of our players could barely stand on their skates, and with only 10 skaters. This win feels good. Mark played well when he was called upon, the forwards moved the puck nicely and the defense played well, they moved the puck up ice all night and kept the front of the net clear, as Mark had very few rebound shots to deal with. This win puts us in a tie for third place with the Mighty Pigs in the league standings.
The Icehole's and in particular Ron played well for two periods, however in the third the wheels fell off the bus. The 7 man crew from Drywall out skated and overpowered the Icehole's defence. Ron made some outstanding saves, and then there were a few I'm sure he would want do over's on. Let it be said, that it was not Ron's fault the Icehole's lost this game, He made most of the first saves many of the second saves, but with 2 or 3 Keyon players in front of him most of the game he did the best he could. Make the final 7 to 2 for keyon Drywall.
The Icehole's were cruising along with a 3 to 1 lead heading into the third period. But penalty trouble allowed the Hooligans to get back in this game. With Dave already in the box, Paul was handed a five minute major for hitting from behind. (Turns out that will cost him a 2 game suspension). On the ensuing powerplay the Hooligans tie the score at 3. But with less than two minutes left Mike T shot a wicked wrist shot from the right corner and slightly behind the icing/goal line, it somehow found the back of the net. Icehole's win! Icehole's win! 4 to 3.
The Icehole's rolled flawlessly through all three lines. Mike, Bert and Fred seemed to have fun out there as they seemed to have the puck in the offensive zone all night. Mark thought this game was being televised as he made some flashy glove saves that were worthy of being on TV. It was a good team victory as the "D" came up strong with a solid effort and another 2 goals. In the end the Iceholes cruised to a 5 to zip shutout and now are the proud owners of a 3 game winning streak.
The first shot on the first shift of the game set the tone of this game. Rob scorched a blistering shot from the slot past a hapless Pigs goaltender (Well not so much, but it sounded good). In our own end Mark was his usual stellar brick wall.(Well not so much in the first period as I think his head was still out in his truck looking for it's usual pre-game pep) But at the start of the second period all the Icehole's were playing a solid game both with the puck and without, as the game went on the Pig's reverted to their typical chippy BS, but we kept our head and stayed out of the box. Make the final, Icehole's a solid 6 and the Pigs 3.
